A clinical and mycological study of dermatophytosis in a tertiary care hospital

<p class="abstract"><strong>Background:</strong> With changing climatic conditions, socio-demographic profile, economic conditions and occupational profile of the population, dermatophyte infections is also changing. Hence, study was done to find out prevalence various clinical pattern dermatophytosis correlate diagnosis with KOH positivity fungal culture positivity.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods:</strong> This prospective observational conducted in a tertiary care hospital, Puducherry. The included patients presenting dermatology outpatient department skin lesions suggestive between January 2016 July 2017. test were done.<strong></strong></p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results:</strong> mean age 33.65±11.61 years, majority belonging 16 30 years group. There high male preponderance 72% male:female ratio 2.57:1. most common <em>Tinea corporis</em> 47.50% population., followed by Unguium</em> 28% cruris</em> 19.50%. seen 86 (43%) 200 cases population. positive 55 (27.50%) organism isolated <em>Trichophyton mentagrophyte</em> (10%), rubrum</em> (9.5%) tonsurans</em> (5.5%). (27.5%) people had both positive.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions:</strong> Dermatophyte commonly affect young economically productive group 30-year, preponderance. tends show higher proportion as compared culture.</p>
